Congregational Care

Well care and support for those needing extra support

First Church Brooklyn Care Ambassadors are members of the Congregational Care Committee who volunteer to visit community members for connection and support. Sometimes members are sick, hospitalized, or going through a difficult time in their lives. Congregational care involves prayer, listening, and empathy.

Our Congregational Care Committee has three primary areas of focus:

Card Ministry

We typically send cards to those in need and those experiencing significant life changes like the birth of a child, new health issues, the loss of a loved one, and the celebration of significant birthdays, anniversaries and milestones. In today’s world of texts and electronic messages, a physical card you can hold in your hand and keep is really special.

Prayer Ministry

As Jesus prayed for the sick and the vulnerable, committee members are called to practice intercessory prayer for all who need their joys multiplied and their stresses diminished. Prayers are received during Sunday worship, and you can also connect with us via e-mail. We send out weekly or bi-weekly prayer requests to the committee members who practice intercessory prayer.

Pastoral Ministry

Illness and hospitalization can be a stressful experience.  Our committee members make hospital and home visits during illness and even accompany community members to doctor’s visit where appropriate.

If you or a loved one has a prayer request to share, reach the leaders of the Congregational Care Committee at pastoralcare@firstchurchbrooklyn.org. If you are a member in crisis and your need is urgent, please call the church office to be connected with our pastor.
