Christian Education

Studying the Bible prepares us to live faithful lives in our families, communities and world. Together we foster community and build relationships. We empower one another to create space for spiritual growth. We wrestle with big questions and understand ourselves to be beloved children of God. In the loving embrace of community, we share life experiences and learn from one another.

Power Hour

First Church Brooklyn offers a weekly adult education class for those who never imagined themselves going to “Sunday School.” We gather for an hour every Sunday morning before service via Zoom.

Topics are usually structured as a program or series that runs for about three weeks or less, so it’s possible to stop and start attending as your schedule allows. Offerings are designed to shore up biblical knowledge while expanding interpretive ability.

Classes are led by different subject matter experts from our own congregation and occasional guest speakers who draw on current events, Christian theology, literature and the arts to enrich discussions. The subjects vary and are always centered on issues that are timely and relevant to contemporary Christians.

The Power Hour gathers September through June.

Retreats

From time to time the congregation, or portions of the congregation, go on retreat for spiritual
renewal, study, and a respite from city life.

Announcements for future retreats will be listed when available.
