First Presbyterian Church Elder Dr. Janet Dewart Bell will be presenting her just released book during the Fellowship Hour.  There will be a limited number of books available for sale, but please feel free to bring books for signing that you have purchased online or at your independent bookstore.

Blackbirds Singing: Inspiring Black Women’s Speeches from the Civil War to the Twenty-First Century is an uplifting collection of speeches by African American women. Bell curates two centuries of stirring public addresses by Black women, from Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman to Ella Baker, Audre Lorde, Barbara Jordan, Barbara Lee and Ruby Nell Sales. These magnificent women explore ethics, morality, courage, authenticity, and leadership, highlighting Black women speaking truth to power in service of freedom and justice.

Janet Dewart Bell is the author of the acclaimed Lighting the Fires of Freedom: African American Women in the Civil Rights Movement, which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award.
